Name: Chiaki Hayasaka (Western Order)
Canon and Medium: Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Video Game
Age: Most likely 16 pre-reincarnation, 18 after reincarnation
Preincarnation Species: Human, turned pseudo-fiend (demon with a human heart) halfway through the game.
Preincarnation Appearance: Human Form and Pseudo-Fiend Form and finally Baal Avatar Form.
Any Differences: When she does eventually transform into a pseudo-fiend, she will keep the same appearance. However, I want to start her off with her right arm missing. Other than that, there is no difference. In order to reach Baal Avatar form, she has to summon Baal and fuse with him, so its (probably) not applicable. If she does, however, there will be no change in appearance.
Starting Location: Las Vegas, NV, USA.
Preincarnated History: Link to detailed history here! I’ll just be listing out the events that happen to make reference to them in her personality section.
Chiaki first starts her life like any normal Japanese student would.
She’s recognized as an intelligent student, making sure to study (and most likely help bail her friends’ asses). Coming from an upper-class family, other than being a mite bit snobbish, she was well-adjusted and had two good friends, Naoki Kashima (player character, later to become the Demi-Fiend) and Isamu Nitta. While going to visit their teacher Yuko Takao in Shinjuku Hospital, she realizes the hospital is completely empty, and there’s obviously something wrong with it. (That doesn’t stop her from taking an occult magazine from Naoki, sitting down and doing fucking nothing to find out what’s wrong, though.) Unfortunately, there really is something terribly wrong- the hospital is where Hikawa is working, and only those in Shinjuku Hospital at the exact moment survive the Conception.
The ‘Conception’ being the process of killing every single living thing to be turned into souls of Magatsuhi in order to bring forth a new world on a clean slate. Tokyo is twisted and formed into the Vortex World, where demons begin to appear and inhabit the new world. During the Conception, any surviving human may form a ‘Reason’- a philosophy which, if they have enough power to go up to Kagatsuchi and defeat all the other Reason-bearers, will form the natural laws of a newly-created world, ridding of the chaotic Vortex World. Without being given any explanation to what was happening, in order to survive being slaughtered by demons, she had to sneak past Forneus (a demon guarding the Hospital entrance) and run across the Vortex World with only her wits to keep her alive. While Naoki gets a Magatama dropped in his eye and gains demonic power, Chiaki is still limited to her human capabilities.
Somehow, she makes her way to Shibuya, into an underground club to find out information. The Demi-Fiend will find her there, and she will realize that the Conception has occurred. The occult magazine she read detailed the meaning of the Conception and what would happen, and with that realization, she leaves the club and the Demi-Fiend. He will only see her again in front of the Mantra Headquarters, where she talks about the realizations she made in the Vortex World.
Chiaki claims that the world she knew before was stagnating, being full of unnecessary things and people pulling back any real progress. She declares that she’ll make a new world where the powerful and productive are on top while the weak and those unable to contribute will be ridded of. She calls this philosophy of social Darwinism the Reason of Yosuga. She will seek the Demi-Fiend’s approval, but no matter what answer, she will accept it and hope they cross paths again.
To gain actual power and even dream of beating up the other Reason-bearers (Isamu with his Reason of Musubi and Hikawa with his Reason of Shijima plus a whole army called the Assembly of Nihilo behind the latter), she needed to collect Magatsuhi and summon a god that will represent her reason. Hearing about a large store of Magatsuhi in Yoyogi Park, she seeks it out herself, only to be attacked by Sakahagi, a Manakin protecting the stash. Chiaki loses her arm in the ensuing fight and retreats.
She makes it all the way to the highest floor of the ex-Mantra headquarters. (No, still no explanation for how the fuck she got there with an arm missing. Sheer willpower, sneaking around or throwing distracting items at demons to keep them off her trail, probably.)
There, she finds the remains of a ruined Gozu-Tennoh, previous leader of the Mantra Army before the Assembly of Nihilo basically ripped them to shreds. Chiaki realizes she failed because she was still relying on purely human strength and was not capable of making her new world without much more power, and Gozu-Tennoh proclaims that he failed because he was not human and could not form a Reason, instead blindly attacking the Assembly of Nihilo to stop their Reason of Shijima. He supports Chiaki’s Reason, lamenting his own fallacy. Chiaki asks Gozu-Tennoh to give her the remains of his strength so she can bring forth her Reason of Yosuga, in which he obliges.
Taking his power, she transforms into a pseudo-fiend, and this causes all the entities that support the Reason of Yosuga to come flocking to her. She invades Asakusa, holy land of the Manikins, to take their Magatsuhi to summon her god. The Demi-Fiend will run into her there, slaughtering the Manikins and about to kill Futomimi to get to the Magatsuhi. At this point, she will ask the Demi-Fiend if he supports her. Unlike before, if he disagrees, she will fly into a rage, saying that the Demi-Fiend has no idea why he has the power of Magatama he possesses now and kills Futomimi herself (if he does agree, he will fight Futomimi himself). She claims that the power of Magatsuhi should only belong to her, someone who actually has a Reason to bring forth, and an ambition in sight.
Using the Magatsuhi, she summons the Baal Avatar and fuses with her demonic sponsor, giving her a brilliant appearance. (Note, from this point on, her consciousness is most likely shared and further influenced by her demonic sponsor, Baal.) She begins to climb the Tower of Kagutsuchi to bring forth her Reason to Kagutsuchi first.
No matter what route the Demi-Fiend is on, he’ll end up battling Chiaki anyway. If he’s support Yosuga, he’ll be battled as a natural competitor, following the idea that if he isn’t strong enough to defeat her, he shouldn’t be allowed to help lead the new world; but on other routes, as a opponent with another ideal to uphold, in which Chiaki will question in her dying moments upon why he does not support her Reason despite knowing the importance of power. The Demi-Fiend will kill her, and she is the last Reason boss to be faced.
This Chiaki will be following the Demi-Fiend having gone True Demon Ending- basically, disagreed with Chiaki on all accounts, rejected all Reasons of the humans and decided to follow Lucifer, leading to her death as the last Reason boss. Elaborate description of the route here, under ‘Rejection’!
Reincarnated History:
Chiaki was born in Japan again, and lived a relatively similar life, up to the fact there was no Vortex World. So, keeping her dreams as a normal student fighting for a place in the world, she worked diligently at her studies and kept a circle of close friends, though she would make an effort to force them to actually make an effort for exams when she can. She knew two good friends, again; and without the Conception to get in their way, they stayed good friends, though Chiaki is pretty disappointed in a certain someone (quite like Isamu, if she ever remembered him…) basically slacking out of high school.
Eventually, she made her way to Princeton, rolling out a huge plan of getting two majors and three minors in four years, maybe even routing credit from other schools and beating the system- but before she could even start, her friends and parents urged her to take a break for once while the semester hasn’t even started and she thus made her to Las Vegas. Really, though, she was only coaxed in upon hearing news of a mysterious pink light; if anything, Chiaki found it interesting to investigate upon first-hand.
Armed with amazing ability in English (for a Japanese student, at least) and hopes, she set off for Las Vegas with literally little to no idea what she’ll do first and not planning to gamble away all her money.
However, in Las Vegas, she gets involved in a hit-and-run, which led to her losing her right arm completely. This is when she gets her first Echo, and also the point which she is apped into the game, right after losing her arm.
First Echo:
Her first Echo occurs upon losing her right arm in a hit-and-run, paralleling the time she lost her arm to the Manikin, Sakahagi. She suddenly gains the complete knowledge and philosophy of the Reason of Yosuga, as if she had it read to her over and over. Other than that, nothing else.
Because the loss of her arm in-game to Sakahagi was the final straw that showed the player her Reason was completely cemented within her, she will be getting the knowledge of her Reason of Yosuga. While it was sure already heavily invested in the Reason of Yosuga, by losing her arm, Chiaki realized she was a weak being without any real power in the world. Only aimless hope and a Reason without actual strength to back it up. Instead of backing away from her Reason upon realizing how much resemblance it bore to the Vortex World, though, the fact she stuck to it most likely means being faced with actual ‘natural selection’ caused her to respect it, seeing as she snuck away to seek more power and collect her thoughts afterwards. Even faced with the most brutal reality of her Reason, she remained devoted, so the loss of her arm shows she was unwilling to give it up and the point of no return.
Preincarnation Personality:
At first, one would notice that while she isn’t outright nasty, Chiaki is… kind of a snob.
Chiaki knows how to carry herself, be polite, so on so forth. But at the same time, she’s not too approachable. In canon, she pokes fun at Isamu and looks down on him for slacking, but she does know how to look up to people that work for themselves and others without needing to leech off anyone half the time, such as her teacher, Yuko Takao. When Naoki mentions he got a magazine from a stranger, she immediately says “Naoki, I thought you were smarter than that.” While it might be valid, she’s quick to jump to conclusions and judgments. And while she expresses shock over the fact it was an occult magazine, she sits down and starts reading it anyway, telling Naoki to go help Isamu look for their teacher instead of doing something herself to figure out why Shinjuku Hospital was empty. She subtly orders people around, and while she could help if bugged herself, she only takes consistent initiative in telling other people to do it.
Though, her rather elitist attitude mostly comes from her own fear of being left behind in the world, as I believe the Vortex World shows. She wants to have a firm footing, good job, good life, and wants to stay on top. This manifests in the worst way possible once the Conception begins.
Still, she isn’t too much of an elitist, seeing as she was friends with Isamu Nitta of all people. Despite his laziness, she still stuck with him, and probably tries to help him work harder. She doesn’t let her elitism control her, only slightly affect the way she sees things and what she says. Chiaki still seeks out friendship, and can be nice, seeing she is going to visit her sick teacher in hospital.
Obviously, being thrown into a world full of demons doesn’t leave a normal high school student intact. Chiaki, ace student with big dreams, just a bit snobby but ultimately possessing a harmless way of life, gets forced to fight for her life against creatures she knew nothing about. Still, she manages to sneak past the demon Forneus, showing incredible bravery and/or an extremely strong sense of self-preservation. She adapts quickly, as shown by the fact she manages to make her way to the Shibuya underground club unhurt. When the demons appeared, while her first instinct was to run and scream, once she realized that wasn’t possible, she simply sucked it up and did everything she could to understand what was going on and to survive.
"Nothing fazes me anymore. I realized... no matter how much I cry or shout this nightmare won't end."
Saying these words, we can see Chiaki eventually grew desensitized to the bloodshed and chaos around her. She’s fully aware that reality kicks you in the ass hard, even before the Conception, where she studied diligently because she knew her life would be even worse if she didn’t. When faced with a brutal reality, she eventually accepts it and tries to be pragmatic, taking advantage of the new world’s rules.
Realistic outlook and adaptability aside, one major aspect of her character is also the Reason she formed- the Reason of Yosuga. The Reason of Yosuga is the philosophy that only the productive and strong may rule, while the weak and useless will be purged from society. Power will be the only currency, the only thing that matters in that world, and those weaker will always be forced to serve those stronger. Chiaki stated the world she knew before the Conception was full of superfluous things- such as the disabled, freeloaders, so on so forth. She found the notion of supporting every single person in society unnecessary and troublesome, especially when they will only take up resources without contributing any of their own. Her Reason is one of social Darwinism and elitism.
However, it forms from her own paranoia and fear of being left behind and left to rot in society. Since Chiaki believes herself to be on top form and power in terms of diligence and education, such a philosophy would allow her to stay in power without technicalities getting in the way. However, this Reason would also fuel her paranoia, as she would always be looking over her shoulder to see if anyone would gain power and overthrow her. This means that the Reason of Yosuga was not ONLY formed from her human fears, but she also actually desires a world where humanity would progress forward, and if that meant her death, so be it. However, if it doesn’t mean her death, then the Reason will give her the power to help advance society- what she wants to do.
So, because she fears rotting away and yet will face death for the advancement of humanity, we can see that Chiaki is capable of great bravery. Surviving in the Vortex World aside, she also sneaks into Yoyogi Park in a (botched) attempt to get Magatsuhi, further illustrating her ability to be brave.
When she becomes a pseudo-fiend, Chiaki’s attitude gets far worse. Beforehand, if the Demi-Fiend doesn’t support her views, she accepts it and understands other people may desire different things. This shows she has not yet lost her humanity, and capable of sympathizing, though still independent enough to fight for her own cause. After becoming a pseudo-fiend, should the Demi-Fiend disagree with her, she will snap at him and simply be unable to understand why he wouldn’t go along with the Reason of Yosuga. Her humanity has deteriorated, with sheer brutality and obsession in her Reason taking over. She has no qualms with slaughtering an entire group of Manikins, calling them ‘useless mud dolls’, despite the fact they also have hopes and desires for their own world. Since they are not human and incapable of forming a Reason or fighting for themselves, she considers them weak and useless. This affirms that she is truly emulating her mindset of elitism.
Another thing to note is that, no matter what route the Demi-Fiend is on, she will fight him as Baal Avatar anyway. This is further evidence to prove she’s thrown herself in to the Reason of Yosuga completely, to the point that her closest ally is nothing but another competitor.
In the end, she was what people consider a normal girl, with good grades and a fear of what the future held, turned into a desensitized, morally skewered individual sinking herself into a chaotic and elitist mindset to defend herself from the Vortex World and her own fears.
Any Differences:
Well, the fact that she doesn’t go crazy over the idea of Yosuga in the Vortex World is one.
Seriously, though. At this point, she’s not too different from pre-Conception Chiaki. She still possesses her fear of being discarded by the world and left to rot at the bottom, still a bit of a snob, but still a loyal friend who does ultimately respect people that can pull their own weight and help people who don’t. But now that she’s been accepted into Princeton of all places, while she knows she’s going to have to work harder, she’s much more confident in herself.
She doesn't (yet) believe the world is cluttered with unnecessary things, and while she does scoff at the fact some restrictions and such exist, she respects them in the end and tries to accommodate others. Not to the point of her annoyance, though- she’d more than likely want nothing more to do with you should you inconvenience her greatly and take up her precious time.
She’s far less desensitized and deadpan than the time she spent in the Vortex World, willing to actually smile now and then. With her life ahead of her, she’s far more open to friendship and leisure, though still not too much and can be considered ‘uptight’.
Abilities: As a human, she does not have much combat experience prior to the Conception. Afterwards, however, she learned to fight with a knife, probably through inevitable scuffles with demons. Since it’s not formal training, she’s not very good at it.
As a pseudo-fiend, she is shown to be able to manipulate the black branches where her right arm used to be as projections, as she stabbed Futomimi with them if she is left to kill him. She most likely can use the extensions as weapons, crushing, slamming and piercing as much as possible. She probably has access to other attacks of demonic origin, such as Megidola (a move that inflicts damage through holy magic. Its damage range is around… think elephant being whacked by a whole library bookshelf). She also has high stamina and speed as compared to a human, seeing as she decimates a whole society of Manikins without breaking a sweat.
I’ll only be bringing her in with the potential of turning pseudo-fiend form with her arm projections, Megidola, and slightly superhuman capabilities.
As the Baal Avatar, she learns the following skills:
-Bael’s Bane. It literally turns the opponent into a fly for a temporary amount of time, probably around ten minutes.
-Mahamaon. Basically a spell with high chance of expelling all targets far away.
-Holy Wrath. Oh, boy. In-game, this move brings you down to 50% of your HP, and probably cuts away most of your well-being, to put it politely
-Megidola. Mentioned above.
-Beast Eye. Game mechanic move, not applicable.
-Divine Will. Summons two demon allies.
While I don’t plan for her to turn into the Baal Avatar, these are the moves the Baal Avatar possesses.

[This network post is kinda… incredibly formal, isn’t it? It can only be one person, then.]
Good morning. My name isHayasaka Chiaki Chiaki Hayasaka.
I have a question. Yesterday, after the incident [Hey, everyone should know what she was referring to!] a specific area of my body has been aching non-stop for around 24 hours. I obviously cannot approach a doctor for this. Does anyone have any experience or advice?
Thank you.
Any Questions? If anything needs to be nerfed or I need to revise backstory/First Echo/etc., I’ll get to it ASAP!

My name is
I have a question.
